To My Wonderful Patients,
It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to you to announce my impending retirement from dentistry.
After 40 years of working in a field that I love, it is time to move on to the next phase of my life. I have
been honored to care for your dental needs and appreciate your trust and confidence through the years.
Because I want to be certain that my patients receive the best possible care, I have carefully evaluated a
number of candidates who were interested in assuming my practice. I have selected Dr. Christopher
Banks, whom I believe possesses the highest qualifications and is a talented, skilled dentist, with a
practice that will feel warm and comfortable for my patients.
Dr. Banks was born in Virginia and raised in West Virginia. He attended West Virginia University where
he completed his undergraduate studies in three years and then obtained his Doctorate of Dental
Surgery (DDS). While a student at the West Virginia University School of Dentistry, he was actively
involved in many philanthropic organizations. Following dental school, Dr. Banks worked alongside his
father, Dr. Kenneth Banks, at his practice, Smile Designs of the Shenandoah Valley.
As a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the
International Academy of Facial Aesthetics and the Maryland Dental Association, Dr. Banks is committed
to expanding his knowledge of dental practice and keeping up with the new strides that technology and
research provide for oral health. In 2013, Dr. Banks was selected to serve as Chair of the American
Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s Board of Trustees.
Dr. Banks’ dental practice is just a few blocks north of my office, at 2 Wisconsin Circle, Suite 200, Chevy
Chase, MD. (For those coming by subway, it is a different exit from the same stop as my office; for those
driving, parking is readily available at reasonable rates.) Dr. Banks provides a full range of general and
cosmetic dentistry services, including routine cleanings and exams, restorative dentistry, dental
implants, root canal therapy, dental crowns and bridges, periodontal therapy, teeth whitening,
Invisalign, porcelain veneers, dermal fillers and other procedures.
Unless we hear otherwise from you, your records will be transferred to Dr. Banks’ office, effective
October 11, 2016. If you have any questions about the transition, please do not hesitate to contact Dr.
Banks at 301-654-5878.
As many of you know, I have worked with a close-knit team for many years. Edna Rivas, my dental
assistant, has been with me more than 30 years; Margarita Villalta, my office manager, and Carmen
Ventura, hygienist on Thursday, have both been here for over 15 years. Edna will be taking some time to
travel and may, in time, seek part time employment. Margarita will be working at Dr. Banks’ office, so
you may hear a familiar voice when you call and see her when you go for an appointment. Carmen will
also work at Dr. Banks office on Thursdays so many of you will see the same hygienist as you have seen
I will also be at Dr. Banks’ office periodically in the coming months to help advise him about patients’
history and ease the transition for all of you. As the office is in Maryland, where I am not licensed, I will
not be providing dental services during that time.
Over the years, I have had the great fortune to treat many wonderful patients. For some of you, I have
known and treated your family members for multiple generations. I will miss seeing and hearing from all
of you. I hope that your relationship with Dr. Banks will be equally rewarding and will bring him as much
pleasure as you have given me over the last 40 years.
Carole Richardson, DDS
